   Sperry Top-Sider – Spring/Summer 2010 – Bahama + Bahama Chukka  Preview

What’s summer without lounging on the deck of that boat (be it a row boat or a fancy yacht)? On that note, what is summer without Sperry Top-Sider to go with that languid floating in mid-summer day? While summer is already behind us, the preview of Spring/Summer 2010 collection pieces from puts us in a good mood for what’s to come. The Bahama and Bahama Chukka from next year will feature all great materials and colorways of summer- beige canvas uppers with matching check lining on the Bahama; a tanned canvas on a Bahama Chukka has the kicks masquerading around as a boot. And our favorite, the Bahama Chukka done up in two types of denim- a distressed one in lighter wash paired over darker indigo on crisp white soles– just like wearing your favorite jeans with white sneakers on your feet. Looks like next season is going to be a promising nautical one with great shoes to match. via: Contemporary Standard> Sperry Top-Sider

Boat shoes, are also known as loafers but one version is also known also as deck shoes or topsiders, are typically leather with rubber soles designed for use on a boat. A siping pattern is cut into the soles to provide grip on a wet deck; the leather construction, along with application of oil, is designed to repel water. Modern boat shoes were invented in 1935 by Paul Sperry after noticing his dog’s ability to run easily over ice or snow. Using a knife, he cut siping into his shoes’ soles, inspiring a shoe perfect for boating. Sebago and Sperry are notable modern manufacturers of boat shoes.
